Exercise Routine
•	Lateral squat
•	30-second six-inch squat
•	Dyna-Band back row
•	6&6 bicep curl
•	Tricep overhead extension
•	Power walking
picture shows lateral squat
1. Lateral squat
What you need
2/3kg dumbbells
Targets
Inner thigh, bottom and lower front thigh.
Starting position
Stand straight with your feet together and hold the dumbbells on each side of your shoulders. Your arms will be bent at the elbow. Hold your abs in tight.
What to do?
•	From the starting position, move your right leg to the side so that your feet are shoulder-width apart.
•	Squat by lowering your body until your thighs are parallel to the floor.
•	Now push your body upwards from your heels. As you do this, move your left leg to meet your right so that you are in the starting position again.
Repetitions
Perform two sets of 20 repetitions alternating your starting foot.
Breathing
Breathe normally throughout this exercise.
How should you feel?
You should feel your inner thighs and bottom tighten.
2. 30-second six-inch squat
What you need
2/3kg dumbbells
Targets
Front thighs and bottom.
Starting position
Stand straight with your feet shoulder-width apart and hold the dumbbells on each side of your shoulders. Your arms will be bent at the elbow. Hold your abs in tight. Point your feet out slightly.
What to do?
* Move down into a squat position so that your legs are parallel to the floor.
* Now gently move up and down, lifting off your heels (like a gentle bounce), through a six-inch range of movement for 30 seconds.
* Return to starting position.
Repetitions
Perform two sets of 30-second squats.
Breathing
Breath normally.
How should you feel?
You should feel the front of your thighs and bottom burn. If you don’t, then squat down a fraction lower. The body’s not used to partial movement so expect a challenge.
3. Dyna-Band back row
What you need
Dyna-Band
Targets
Upper arms and back.
Starting position
Hold one end of the Dyna-Band in each hand with your palms facing each other and position it under your feet. Stand with your legs hip-width apart and bend slightly forward from your waist with your back straight.
Straighten your arms out in front of you so that they’re parallel to the floor.
What to do?
•	Pull the sides of the Dyna-Band towards you so that your arms go on each side of your waist. Make sure your elbows travel past the shoulder point.
•	Move the Dyna-Band back into the starting position with a controlled movement, resisting the tension.
Repetitions
Do three sets of 20 repetitions.
Breathing
Breathe in as you pull and as you return to the starting position, breathe out.
How should you feel?
As you pull, you should feel the muscles across the back squeeze and contract each time.
4. 6&6 bicep curl
What you need
2/3kg dumbbells
Targets
Arms
Starting position
Stand straight with your feet shoulder width apart, knees soft with a dumbbell in each hand.
Stretch both arms out in front of you with your palms facing upwards.
What to do?
•	Bend your arms at the elbow and move towards your chest. Keep your elbows in close to your sides.
•	Hold for a couple of seconds and return back to the starting position.
Repetitions
Do two sets of six repetitions.
Breathing
Breathe normally.
How should you feel?
As you curl, you should feel the muscles in your upper arm contract.
5. Tricep overhead extension
What you need
2/3kg dumbbells
Exercise mat
Targets
Back of the arms
Starting position
Lie down on your exercise mat and draw your belly button in towards your spine. Hold one of the dumbbells in the air with both hands at one end.
Extend your arms above you and bend at the elbows.
What to do?
•	Move weight over and slightly past your head.
•	Pause for a moment and bring arms back to the starting position.
Repetitions
Do two sets of 20 repetitions.
Breathing
Breathe normally.
How should you feel?
You should feel the backs of the arms burn and contract.
6. Abdominal rockers
What you need?
Exercise mat
Targets
Stomach
Starting position
Lie on the exercise mat, place your hands at the base of your head behind your ears to support it and raise your legs straight in the air.
What to do?
•	Lower your legs about 12 inches while your upper body remains still and then bring them back to the starting position.
•	Focus on the abdominal muscles lifting the legs through the hip. Be sure not to jerk but keep the movement controlled.
Repetitions
Do two sets of 12 repetitions.
Breathing
Try to breathe normally throughout. If you struggle, slow the movement.
How should you feel?
Your stomach will contract.
7. Power walking
For optimum results, power walk for 20 minutes outside or on a treadmill.
Remember to take long strides, drive the elbow past the hip and travel at a brisk pace. This will remove lactic acid from the body, burn fat and help cool your muscles down.

These diets claim to purify the body and to eliminate the so-called “poisoning agents”.
They basically contain the all too familiar list of low calorie foods-plenty of raw vegetables, skimmed milk, cheese, fish and lean-meat. Logically, they exclude the so-called “body-polluters” like chocolates, chips, and alcohol-all having many calories. So, naturally these anti-cellulite diets will help you lose weight.
Apart from their low calorie value, these anti-cellulite diets contain plenty of fluids, restrict salt intake and contain large amounts of iodine. Fluids are included because they are supposed to increase kidney activity and speed up the rate at which your body gets rid of the waste materials.
Once the ‘poisons’ are eliminated, the cellulite would follow. But this is a hypothetical explanation, because doctors do not believe that the kidney activity has anything to do with accumulation and elimination of fat. Iodine is included to hasten up burning up of fat. Iodine is used normally in the body by the thyroid gland to produce hormones which control the rate at which fuel is burnt. Including extra iodine in the diet is, however, unlikely to be of any use in speeding up the process of getting rid of fat, as the thyroid gland only needs a minute amount of iodine and this is generally provided by a normal balanced diet.

Cellulite is a skin condition affecting over 90% of most post-pubescent women. Even those with a slim figure often complain about cellulite external visible symptoms — its lumpy, dimpled appearance.
Cellulite commonly appears on the hips, buttocks and legs, but is not caused by being overweight, as many believe. Cellulite appears in the subcutaneous level of skin tissue. Fat cells are arranged in chambers surrounded by bands of connective tissue called septae. As water is retained, fat cells held within the perimeters of this area expand and stretch the connective tissue. Eventually this connective tissue contracts and hardens (sclerosis) holding the skin at a non-flexible length, while the surrounding tissue continues to expand with weight, or water gain. This results in areas of the skin being held down while other sections bulge outward, resulting in the lumpy, ‘cottage-cheese’ appearance.

The irregular bulging dimpled appearance that results are the visible signs of cellulite, which affects so many people. No lotion or cream will help cure cellulite because ointments can’t terminate the septae, which are the root cause of the condition.
The 2,100-member American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is the leading organization dedicated to the advancement of cosmetic surgery and is the recognized source for information about cosmetic surgery education and alternative treatments. ASAPS currently acknowledges that there is no permanent ‘cure’ to the condition known as cellulite, although they recognize various treatments that have emerged. One of those ‘treatments’ is a surgical technique known as cellulite lysing. Another technique reported on is Fat Injection, or FFT (free fat transfer). The RejuveSkin Treatment is an advancement of these two ASAPS recognized techniques combined to allow a high degree of permanency, with few complications, as patient data from over two years now shows.

Cellulite is difficult to get rid off completely. A proper combination of diet, vigorous massage and exercise may help to improve the appearance.
Cellulite can be gradually eliminated by detoxification of body and speeding up metabolism. A healthy metabolism will remove cellulite forever. The efficient functioning of the liver is essential for calorie burning and detoxification.
Stop eating foods high in saturated and hydrogenated fats.
Avoid foods with too much salt in the diet, and too many diet drinks as these
encourage fluid.
Exercise like brisk walking, jogging, and cycling for the muscles of buttocks, thigh and hip.
Massage for 10-15 minutes daily to break down large fat collection. Applying a hot water bottle followed with an icepack, prior to the massage.
Avoid pesticides, addictives, colorings and artificial sweeteners to protect liver.
Stop skipping meals, eat a healthy diet at least 3 times a day.
Remain active. Do some physical activity.
Topical aninophylline cream has been helpful for some people.
Doctors may advise a surgical liposuction.

Some nonmedical skin specialists see cellulite as more than just fat. “Cellulite is a combination of fat globules, waste matter, and water imprisoned in connective tissue,” says Carole Walderman, aesthetician and president of Von Lee International School of Aesthetics, in Baltimore.
Medical doctors and researchers may not agree with this theory. Peel off the pounds. Since cellulite is fat, excess weight can contribute to it, says Dr. Lazar. Lose weight gradually, he says, and “hopefully, some of what you lose will be cellulite.”
Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables—low in calories yet packed with nutrients—and drink fruit and vegetable juices, suggests Dolores Schneider, a nutritionist and director of Sharon Springs, a spa in upstate New York, where people go to lose pounds and detoxify their bodies.
Get back in balance by eating well. Eat a healthy, balanced diet overall, urges Kim Ulen, supervisor of the skin care department of the Cal-a-Vie Spa in Vista, California. “This returns your body chemistry to a balanced state in which cellulite is less likely to develop,” she says.
Get back in balance by resting well. Relax in your bathtub, Schneider suggests, with a home mineral bath containing sea salt. Add about 2 cups of sea salt to warm bathwater and luxuriate in the soothing waters for at least 20 minutes. It will leave your skin feeling smooth.
Combat constipation. “People who are constipated on a regular basis usually have cellulite,” says Ulen. Your meals move more quickly through your digestive tract when you eat plenty of high-fiber foods like green vegetables and grains every day, she says. For an extra boost, she suggests sprinkling raw bran on your foods or in your beverages at each meal. Plus:
•	Practice the eating habits your mother (hopefully) taught you, like chewing your food thoroughly and forgoing late-night snacks, Ulen says.
•	Drink beverages at room temperature rather than ice-cold. “Ice constricts your esophagus and stomach, hindering the flow of digestive enzymes into your stomach,” she says.
Make your skin an exit ramp. Keeping your body’s natural highways and byways clear gives cellulite an easier escape route, skin specialists say. They say the following techniques will open up the blood vessels in and just below your skin, and also keep your waste-removal system working properly.
•	Drinks lots of water. “I have found that a lot of people who have cellulite don’t drink enough water,” says Walderman. Drink at least six to eight glasses of bottled water—distilled or mineral—per day, she says.
•	Steer clear of salt, which contributes to water retention and adds to cellulite problems, says Ulen.
•	Kick the coffee and cigarette habits, says Walderman. These substances constrict your blood vessels and may actually make your cellulite more prominent.
•	Dry-brush your skin. It helps improve your circulation, says Walderman. Press a soft-bristled brush gently onto your skin and rotate it in circular movements from head to toe or on cellulite areas alone, she says.
Take up muscle-toning exercises. Building stronger muscles with methods such as Nautilus or working out with weights may help fill out the tissue in cellulite problem areas, says Dr. Lazar.
Massage those trouble spots. Reinforce the benefits of exercise, says Ulen, with gentle, kneading massage you can do yourself in areas like your thighs and the insides of your knees.
Take a deep breath. Learn to breathe from deep down in your diaphragm, says Schneider. The oxygen helps burn fat. A deep breath also helps clean out toxic carbon dixoide from all your cells, says Ulen.
Stay calm. Cellulite builds up when muscles get tense, and muscles get tense when you’re feeling stressed, says Walderman. You need to relax. If you’re among those who find it hard to relax, the following might be of help.
•	Try yoga for an ideal antistress, anticellulite remedy, she says. This discipline teaches you to breathe deeply, gives your muscles a good stretch, and relaxes you all over.
•	Wipe worrisome thoughts from your mind by spending a few minutes on a slant board, Walderman suggests. Lie with your head at the low end of the board for up to 20 minutes each day. For the same benefits without a slant board, lie on the floor with your feet propped up on the wall, suggests Ulen.

Q:I have heard that there are different types of cellulite. How can I tell which type I have?
A:Hard, or solid cellulite usually occurs in women who are active (such as dancers or runners). Hard cellulite is difficult to get rid of because it doesn’t lift from the body easily. It’s also harder to see because it attaches directly to the muscle.
Soft cellulite is not as concentrated as hard cellulite and is much more visible. It occurs in large areas and, because it doesn’t attach so strongly to the muscle, it’s looser, often sagging from the body. The result is often poor muscle tone. Because it’s easier to spot, it’s also easier to remove.

To test for cellulite, lightly pinch or press an area of tissue between your thumb and finger (or in a larger area, between the palms of your two hands). Normal fat appears fairly smooth, but cellulite will reveal dimples or ripples – like the skin of an orange. Cellulite tissue is also more sensitive and can feel cold to the touch. It might appear whiter than the rest of your skin.

It depends how you define ‘work’. Cellulite creams, such as those containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), help reduce and prevent the appearance of cellulite by improving the skin’s elasticity of the skin. They also claim to do everything else from strengthening to renewing and softening the skin. In conjunction with increased circulation and a change of diet and lifestyle, some of these products reduce the appearance of cellulite by strengthening the network of connective tissue. These products do not, however, banish cellulite forever, as cellulite is nothing but fat. Bear in mind that once you stop using these creams the skin returns to its original state, since you haven’t permanently altered the its natural properties.
Besides using creams, there are other treatments for cellulite. Some include:
Endermologie
The Endermologie machine, developed in France over a decade ago, has been found to have a measurable effect in fighting cellulite. It uses rollers and gentle suctioning to deeply massage the affected areas, increasing the circulation by 200 per cent (manual massage increases the circulation by 60 per cent). Toxins and abnormal water buildup are expelled as connective fibres are stretched. Endermologie also exfoliates the skin, leaving it soft and silky. The increased circulation will give you a natural energy boost.
Expect to wear a body stocking as a technician runs the suctioning rollers over your body concentrating on the cellulite-ridden areas (you may feel a bit like a human hoover). Sessions run between 35-45 minutes and are usually conducted twice weekly. Most salons only offer a minimum course of 14 treatments with prices ranging from $750 to $2,000. A single session can cost between $75 to $125.

Learn about cellulite reduction and causes. Cellulite are fat cells that can be reduced by dieting, exercise and cosmetic treatment.
Cellulite is formed with the hormone controlled sex-specific structure of the female body. Cellulite is normally resistant to any form of treatment. The best way of battling with cellulite is to prevent its formation.
Diet, exercise and cosmetic treatment are used to prevent cellulite from growing. A person’s diet should balance between her calorie need and calorie input. Drastic dieting to reduce weight encourages the body processes and metabolism to slow down. When a normal weight or desired weight is reached, maintain a diet to restrict the volume of the fat tissues. To reduce cellulite, eat less carbohydrates and fats. Take protein for the bulk of your meals.
Exercise improves the muscular and tissue structure. Exercise also increases blood and lymph flow. This prevents the tissue blockage that leads to the formation of cellulite. However, exercise cannot totally remove cellulite.
Cosmetic treatment is the mechanical removal of cellulite. This involves the process of using a suction pump massage (SPM) to massage the skin. This stimulates lymphatic flow, which in turn encourages drainage and results in the removal of metabolic waste products. The suction pressure causes thermal action between the fat cells. This helps to break down the fat deposits. When this treatment is effective, you’ll experience warmth in your skin. The skin also begins to redden. To compress the fat cells, body wrapping is used after the SPM treatment. This body wrap helps to contour the body. The warp is so effective that it compresses the fat cells. This is not scientifically proven to treat cellulite.
After your cellulite reduction treatment, your skin should become smooth and lose its former cellulite loaded orange peel look. Your skin will also become more elastic, moist and warm. Internally, your metabolic rate will increase slightly. The temperature of the skin will also therefore increase.
For all the methods of reducing cellulite, diet and exercise are the most important. If you change your diet and exercise regularly, you will keep a check on the cellulite
